Clemson Chili Cook Off
Each fall semester at Clemson University, the ATOs on campus hold their Signature Event, Chili Cook Off. Greeks and student organizations from across campus congregate at the ATO house to compete for the title of “Best South Carolina Chili.”
“We’re trying to create a tailgating atmosphere where you can hang out with your friends, enjoy live music, eat some good food and win some cool prizes," said Stahler McKinney, Clemson ’09.
The chapter raised $5,000 from a collective letter-writing campaign and tickets sold for the event. All of the proceeds went to Golf 9/12, a charitable organization that hosts a golf tournament on September 12 each year. Money collected by Golf 9/12 supports 9/11 memorials, local first responders, armed forces charities and friends of freedom charities.
The chapter's Chili Cook Off caught the attention of Golf 9/12 CEO Rich Davies, who was in attendance at the event along with two PGA Tour professionals, Lucas Glover and Trevor Immelman. After meeting the chapter and seeing their support of Golf 9/12 and the community, both Glover and Immelman chose to become honorary initiates of the Eta Pi chapter at a ceremony preceding the cook-off.
