After a year of close competition,
Pepperdine has been named the 2011 RoadRace Champion. Coming in second place was
Alabama-Huntsville, and
Adrian rounded out the top three.
There were many lead changes throughout the year, making this the most competitive year for ATO Roadshow with many incredible events and chapter successes. However, with events like GladiATOrs, it is no surprise that the Kappa Epsilon chapter at Pepperdine University drummed up enough support to take home the top spot.
GladiATOrs is a Signature Event for greek organizations on Pepperdine’s campus. Loosely based off of the hit television show "American Gladiators", the challenges are physically demanding and competition is fierce.
“The events are going to be a little more hard-core, and we’re kind of pressing the envelope a little bit,” said Kendall Fisher, Pepperdine ’07. “It takes strength and endurance. It’s like football without pads.”
It’s not all rough and tough though. The proceeds from GladiATOrs help support the
Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, a cause very close to Kappa Epsilon.
“One of our chapter brothers (Jordan Helm, Pepperdine ’07), his own brother has cystic fibrosis so he motivated us to push for that cause,” said Mack Carroll, Pepperdine ’07.
“Because we have a relationship with the homes that have a kid with cystic fibrosis … We want to make [GladiATOrs] the best we can,” said Matthew Cocculuto, Pepperdine '07. “The motivational factor is the greatest thing about it.”
In the past two years, Kappa Epsilon has raised more than $23,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
