On Sunday, October 2, 2011, the Ball State Office of Student Life in partnership with the Interfraternity and Panhellenic Councils hosted a Greek Academy for officers and new members.

During the first half of the academy, new members got to know other fraternal and sorority new members. During the academy they participate in a why am I Greek discussion; hear a BSU Greek policy review; learn about Greek life involvement and how to be a leader; and here from Ball State administrators on their goals for the mission and values of the Greek community at Ball State.

“Greek Academy was a great learning experience that really enlightens you to the benefits of brotherhood and what it takes to get the most out of Greek life,” said new member Ken Meyers of the experience.

Later in the day it was the officers’ turn at the Greek Academy. Several topics covered for various officers included risk management; how to develop emerging leaders; chapter problem solving; confronting inappropriate behavior; chapter image branding; budgeting; working with advisors; helping new members transition academically; and effective officer transitions.

The academy helps the officers stay on track and offers them new ideas for the year ahead of them.

“This was an outstanding opportunity for both our new members to meet other new members from campus as well as our officers,” said President Colin Warner. “It was a great way for them to get into the swing of things and getting some tips to better do their job.”
