The Ball State Interfraternity Council hosted Dodgebro, a Greek-life dodgeball tournament, on Sunday, November 6, 2011. The event was open to all fraternities and their members to participate, and a fraternity could have multiple teams with up to eight members. ATO fielded three teams.
All three teams competed at a high level. Two of the three teams made it deep into the winners’ bracket. The winning Theta Alpha team, ATOwns, battled a strong Sigma Phi Epsilon (Sig Ep) team in the championship game.
There were several highlights for all of the Tau teams. New member Blake Viglione showed off his elusiveness and athleticism during a final stand in a match against Fiji. As the only member left on his team, Blake did a cartwheel while five members of the opposing team threw their balls at the same time. Not a single ball connected with Blake during the act.
Brother Ryan Papathanasiou became ATOs tournament MVP. Ryan was the last remaining Tau in the final match against Sig Ep, who also had only one remaining teammate. An intense battle ended as Ryan ran up on the line and connected a hard throw, winning the game for the Taus, and crowning Theta Alpha the first Dodgebro tournament champions.
"It was an epic moment for ATO," said Ryan. "The tournament was a great brotherhood bonding experience. Defeating Sip Ep, a very athletic fraternity, was a great feeling. RUH RAH REGA!"
The IFC organized the event in collaboration with Cardinal Communications as a way to encourage relationships between fraternities across campus.
The sponsors of Dodgebro included Goodwill, Sears and Scotty's Brewhouse, and awards were given to teams for first place, second place and best costume. The Greek organization with the highest percentage of its chapter in attendance also received an award.
