Ball State Launches Week of Sevice Initiative
Chapter: Ball State

Category: Community Service

The Theta Alpha chapter at Ball State University took a bold pledge this fall. Each man individually committed to at least 40 hours of community service during the 2011-2012 academic year.

“Our brotherhood is starting off the new year in a great way,” said Chapter President Colin Warner. “The Ball State and Muncie community are so generous to students. We would like to give back through a week’s worth of service.”

The chapter will kick off the 40 hours of service initiative with a campus clean-up on Sunday, September 18, 2011. The brothers plan to pick up trash from the tailgate lots to the L. A. Pittenger Student Center following the football home opener against Buffalo.

“The idea of this initiative is to benefit our community as well as our brotherhood,” said Social Service Chairman Keegan Jiles. “The clean-up this Sunday is just the beginning. We are planning several service projects this year. So keep an eye out for our brothers helping our community.”

Theta Alpha has plans for a different service project opportunity for members each month from September to May in the Ball State or Muncie-area. The chapter will also count the contributions made by brothers who complete individual service hours outside the monthly group activities. Brothers have divided the goal into at least 20 service hours per semester. Any new members will be given the opportunity to join the service initiative.
