The men of Alpha Tau Omega at Ball State University are raising awareness for prostate cancer as the fall semester comes to a close. Each member will partake in various awareness activities and finish it off with a corn hole tournament fundraiser.

To raise awareness for prostate cancer the brothers of Alpha Tau Omega (ATO) will wear light blue prostate cancer ribbons and will also be using a specially designed profile picture on their Facebook pages to promote awareness.

Finally, ATO will host a corn hole tournament Saturday, December 11, 2011 in Gym 2 of the Ball State University Recreation & Wellness Center. The tournament entry fee is $16 per team and will begin at 11:00 a.m. All proceeds will go directly to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.

“We wanted to bring together the Ball State community with a fun activity by hosting a corn hole tournament to raise money for the cause and bring awareness to students,” said President Colin Warner. “It also seemed an appropriate event to go along with one of their slogans – ‘Take Aim.’”

“Every 2.2 minutes another man is diagnosed with prostate cancer,” added Warner. “As fraternity men, we understand this affects our grandfathers, fathers, and maybe one day might affect one of us. There’s no better time than now to take action in the fight against prostate cancer.”

Many brothers are also participating in “Movember”, a fundraiser where brothers vowed not to shave their mustaches for the month of November. Throughout the month brothers will upload photos showing their progress to the “Movember” website where people can donate money based on their growth of their mustaches.

“I have participated in Movember for a few years,” said brother John Towle. “It is a good way to raise money for a great cause. It is important for us to find ways to make an impact, not just locally but nationally as well. Hopefully we’ll get a few laughs along the way.”

The proceeds from “Movember” go towards men’s health issues - specifically cancers. The money the brothers raise will be donated to the Prostate Cancer Foundation, as well as the LIVESTRONG Foundation.
