In the weeks leading up to our second major philanthropy event of the semester, progress has been made for ATO's Pancake Dinner. The premise is simple enough; we sell tickets for $5 where students can come to the dining hall after normal hours, 10pm-1am and feast on all-you-can-eat breakfast food. We provide the food and music and clean up afterwards, etc., but the whole event needs a general coordinator. This year, freshman pledge Ben Stafford displayed initiative and took upon himself these responsibilities. He printed up the fliers and tickets, coordinated the work schedule, the shifts people took at the ticket-selling table, and the planning it takes to make sure all materials and resources are ready before the event can take place. We are very excited for the event next Tuesday, November 15, and also very proud to see such a strong display of leadership.
All proceeds from the event were going to be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, but alumnus Kevin Clamser proposed a different idea that have a more direct impact in the immediate community. At his church he heard of a story of a three year old boy who had cancer in his chest, and the family asked for money to help with the hospital bills. Kevin shared this at an executive board meeting, and it was decided that the beneficiary of this event should be changed to the family of this patient, because of its relevance and impact to the community we live in.
