Almost a week after the 2011 Arkansas Tech Homecoming is over, ATO Brother Matt Parker is already focusing on how to improve next year’s homecoming. Parker is the Secretary of Student Development on the Student Government Association at Arkansas Tech, one of six elected executive board positions.
“When I was elected into this position at the end of last semester, I knew that I would be in charge of this years homecoming. As planning went on for it, the realization that this could be so much bigger if there was more time and effort put into it came to fruition” says Parker. “I am now starting to set up meetings with various Tech officials and staff to begin working on next years homecoming this year, which oddly enough has not been the norm at Arkansas Tech.”
Parker worked with the Alumni Office, Student Services staff, the President’s Office, and other staff throughout the past two months to get the October 22 celebration off without a hitch. The various homecoming activities that Parker oversaw were; a sign painting competition, a parade that ran through the downtown of Russellville, a float building competition, and of course the selection of homecoming royalty.
“I want to be able to leave my mark on the campus before I graduate and what better way to do that then to plan a homecoming with new ideas that I helped implement” says Parker.
Matt Parker is a senior double majoring in English and Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations. Besides being a part of SGA, he is also involved with the Presidential Leadership Cabinet, PRSSA, and holds a job in the Sports Information Department as well as Student Services at Arkansas Tech.
