Where We Go

There is very little active searching for stories to be covered by ATO Roadshow. Ninety-nine percent of everything you see on the show or Web site comes from submissions received through the Let Us Know form. Through discussions with chapters and the National Staff we decide the Host Chapter based on who meets the criteria and whose story will make the best Feature Presentation for the show. That's why it's so important that you Let Us Know what's going on in your chapter and provide plenty of detail.

While on location Wynn and Matt spend a lot of time preparing to shoot the Roadshow. Once they arrive on your campus they are in continual contact with the chapter, usually via the president, making sure everything is set for the shooting of Roadshow. The night before interviews and/or event, the crew likes to meet the chapter. The chapter usually organizes a brotherhood event or a group of brothers meet up at some location in town. This gives us a good opportunity to see the chapter relaxed and get guys interacting with each other like they would if we were not there. It also provides us with more interesting and more varied tape to use for our final production.

The next day of consists of interviews with campus administrators, chapter members, community members and anyone else that the chapter and the Roadshow Crew select to speak about the impact the chapter is having. We'll also attend your event and get a wide range of coverage to use in our final production.

Once we've completed interviews, brotherhood taping and feature story/main event taping, we're ready to go back to Indianapolis and begin working on highlighting your chapter.

In The Studio

There is a lot of time, technology and energy put in to a finished ATO Roadshow segment. Two things happen in the studio. We shoot the studio scenes at ATO Roadshow Studio 510.Then, we produce the segment.

The first step in producing the segment is writing the story. Sounds strange, but you have to have something to say before you can show anything. We set out to create an informative, fun voice track that explains what it is about your chapter that's so compelling. Once we've got that laid out, we pick out some royalty free music to lay behind your video. Don't worry, we use the same music production company that ESPN uses. Once we've got audio under control, it's time to start watching video. We sift through the tape we shot at your chapter and begin digitally capturing the clips we think best represent what was going on at your event.

From there, it's a lot of organizing, clipping, transitioning and general playtime for us as video production agents. We get to figure out how to showcase your event and present it in a way that makes everyone appreciate the amazing impact your chapter is having.

Once the segment is completed, we encode it for the Web, and bam. You're highlighted. Go out and tell the chapter, all of your friends, your greek community, the people involved with your event, the community members...you get the drift...tell everyone. Mom and dad will be so proud.

At the end of each semester, we'll also be producing a DVD that highlights the best of the semester from ATO Roadshow that will be distributed to all ATO chapters, a number of greek advisors, BOT chairs, and anyone else that would benefit from, or appreciate the value of, the ATO Roadshow.
